SUMMARY:What’s in our water? A participatory science toolkit and behavioral intervention to reduce health risks of chronic microplastic exposure
DESCRIPTION:Samantha McBride\, PhD\, is a recipient of a pilot award from PRCCEH to create a participatory science toolkit for microplastics analysis and behavioral intervention to reduce health risks of chronic microplastic exposure in students. Dr. McBride and her research team aim to distribute microplastics detection kits and perform outreach activities educating older children on microplastics science at local middle and high school programs with the goal of reducing chronic consumption of water from single use plastic bottles. In this seminar she and Derek Ho\, PhD\, will present their work and discuss their outreach activities. \nFollowing registration below\, a Zoom link will be emailed for the webinar. \nSamantha McBride is an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at the University of Pennsylvania\, with a secondary appointment in Chemical and Biological Engineering. She is the principal investigator of the McBride Lab at the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Her research leverages the latest advancements in interfacial science\, fluid physics\, and soft matter physics for water and sustainability. Applications include resource recovery from wastewater\, remediation of microplastics and other emerging pollutants\, anti-fouling surface coatings\, and new technologies for sustainable water treatment and desalination. She is passionate about science communications and K-12 STEM outreach\, and has served as a judge for the U.S. Nationals Stockholm Junior Water Prize since 2018. \nDerek Ho is a postdoctoral fellow with a B.S.\, M.S.\, and Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison\, where he also completed dual Ph.D. minors in Soil Science and Life Science Communication. He currently serves as a Visiting Research Professor at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University in the Department of Biogeochemistry\, where his research focuses on the occurrence\, transformation\, and detection of microplastics across diverse environmental matrices. Derek is deeply passionate about water security and is dedicated to developing technologies for identifying and remediating microplastics in the environment. \nRegister for this Seminar:\n\n\n \n \n Fall 2026 Webinar Registration\n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n OrganizationJoin our mailing list? SUMMARY:Sustainable Financing for Home-Based Asthma Services: Snapshots of Innovation and Progress Across the Country
DESCRIPTION:Asthma home visiting is an evidence-based intervention proven to reduce healthcare costs and improve asthma outcomes. Despite robust evidence of their impact\, however\, programs historically have had to rely on unstable grant funding to provide services. But in recent years\, that pattern has begun to shift\, and we have seen progress in communities and states across the country in building systems for sustainable asthma home visiting services. \nThere are many pathways for achieving sustainable home-based asthma services. As such\, progress can look different from one place to the next. This webinar\, hosted by Regional Asthma Management & Prevention (RAMP) and the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH)\, will feature success stories from across the country\, highlighting both state Medicaid policy advances\, and stories about local partnerships\, and other innovations that create a groundswell for statewide change; all serving as models for new community action. \nLearning Objectives: By the end of this webinar\, participants will: \n\nUnderstand what progress and pathways for building systems to expand and sustain access to home-based asthma services might look like\nIdentify one or more pathways that may lead toward sustainable home-based asthma services in their community or state • Know how to access free technical assistance and tools to support efforts in their community or state.\n\nPanelists: \n\nLynly Siag\, New York State Department of Health\nPeggy Gaddy\, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services\nEric Armbrecht\, Saint Louis University\nNatalie Talis\, Alexandria Health Department\nMolly Zemke\, Wisconsin Department of Health Services\nPaula Holigan\, New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services

SUMMARY:Plastic\, Chemicals & Infertility: What we know now
DESCRIPTION:Industrial chemicals that can affect male and female reproductive function are widespread in our environment. Many of these chemicals are used in the plastics that we use in our daily lives. We are also exposed through manufacturing processes\, pesticides\, and a range of household products\, from air fresheners to skin creams. \nOver the past few decades\, a growing body of evidence has found that exposure to these chemicals is linked to many health concerns\, such as infertility\, cancer\, and neurodevelopmental disorders. A new documentary\, The Plastic Detox\, unfolds the science behind plastics and their health impacts\, specifically fertility challenges. This documentary was guided by environmental and reproductive epidemiologist\, Dr. Shanna Swan\, who conducted a three-month intervention with couples experiencing infertility to “lower daily exposure to plastic-related chemicals in hopes of better health markers\, and ultimately\, pregnancy.” \nIn this EDC Strategies Partnership webinar\, Dr. Swan will discuss the science behind the movie\, details of the “detox” process the participating couples undertook\, and how to understand the implications of this experiment. She will also share global trends in sperm count\, semen quality\, and fertility\, and explain why scientists are certain that environmental factors are driving the dramatic increases worldwide. Finally\, she will give her perspective on how the global crisis in reproductive health can be addressed through action to reduce or eliminate toxic exposures. The webinar will be moderated by Génon Jensen\, Executive Director\, Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL). \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Extreme temperatures\, neighborhood opportunity\, and pediatric primary care outcome
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Dr. Stephanie Mayne from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will present results from a PRCCEH-funded pilot study examining the association of extreme temperatures with missed pediatric preventive visits. Additional research examining the relationship of neighborhood context\, assessed using the multidimensional Child Opportunity Index\, with primary care utilization\, obesity\, mental health\, and adolescent risk factors will be presented as well. \nDr. Mayne\, PhD\, MD\, is an epidemiologist whose research focuses on the relationship of neighborhood environmental exposures with child well-being\, including outcomes such as sleep\, mental health\, and obesity. Her recent work uses intensive longitudinal methods including location tracking\, ecological momentary assessment\, and actigraphy to better assess environmental exposures that vary through time and space and their relationship to sleep among adolescents. \n  \nRegister for this Seminar:
