SUMMARY:The Race to Research: Plastic\, Microplastics\, and Human Health
DESCRIPTION:Megan J. Wolff\, PhD\, MPH\, will deliver dynamic and in-depth lecture on what is known – and what is being researched – about the impacts of plastics on human health. Recent findings about the impacts of plastic on human health demonstrate that plastic pollution is not just a litter problem\, but a health one. As researchers follow the path of microplastics into the ecosystem and into us\, they are coming to understand the hazards that these chemical particles present to living tissue\, and they are raising alarms. Plastic is ubiquitous in our lives\, and there is little way for individuals to avoid exposure. But solutions do exist – and they are within our reach. Come learn about what they are\, and what you can do to bring them about. \n  \nRegister for this Seminar:\n\n\n\n\nAbout Megan \nMegan J. Wolff\, Ph.D.\, MPH is the executive director of P-SNAP\, a network of physicians and scientists who speak\, write\, and testify on plastics and human health. From 2022-2023\, she served on the Minderoo-Monaco Commission on Plastic and Human Health\, which compiled an authoritative report on the health effects of plastic. She was the Health Policy Director at Beyond Plastics from 2021-2024. Wolff is an adjunct faculty member at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University\, and offers an online class on plastics\, microplastics\, and human health. She is a frequent public speaker. \nDr. Wolff received her Masters and her Ph.D. in Public Health from Columbia University\, and her BA in English from Wesleyan University. She lives with her family in New Paltz\, New York.

SUMMARY:Extreme temperatures\, neighborhood opportunity\, and pediatric primary care outcome
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Dr. Stephanie Mayne from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will present results from a PRCCEH-funded pilot study examining the association of extreme temperatures with missed pediatric preventive visits. Additional research examining the relationship of neighborhood context\, assessed using the multidimensional Child Opportunity Index\, with primary care utilization\, obesity\, mental health\, and adolescent risk factors will be presented as well. \nDr. Mayne\, PhD\, MD\, is an epidemiologist whose research focuses on the relationship of neighborhood environmental exposures with child well-being\, including outcomes such as sleep\, mental health\, and obesity. Her recent work uses intensive longitudinal methods including location tracking\, ecological momentary assessment\, and actigraphy to better assess environmental exposures that vary through time and space and their relationship to sleep among adolescents. \n  \nRegister for this Seminar:

SUMMARY:Penn-CHOP ECHO Update
DESCRIPTION:In this seminar\, Heather Burris\, MD\, MPH and Sunni Mumford\, PhD\, will present an update on the work of Penn and CHOP researchers in Cycle 2 of the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort. \nA multidisciplinary group of researchers from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Penn Medicine received a $50 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2023 to study the impact of environmental influences on pregnancy and children’s health. The research program is part of the NIH’s Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program\, which funds research to uncover how environmental exposures during preconception\, pregnancy and early life affect children’s long-term health. \nFollowing registration below\, a Zoom link will be emailed for the webinar. \nHeather Burris\, MD\, MPH is a founding member of Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health. Heather is a practicing neonatologist at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania who focuses on environmental determinants of adverse pregnancy outcomes and the impact of exposures on health equity. \nShe studies: greenspace\, air pollution\, metals and other toxic chemicals\, and neighborhood deprivation and segregation. Heather’s research projects enroll study participants during pregnancy or use large datasets to identify beneficial exposures and harm reduction to guide perinatal environmental health policy. \nSunni Mumford\, PhD\, is the Professor of Epidemiology and Co-Director of the Women’s Health Clinical Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Sunni is a reproductive and nutritional epidemiologist whose research focuses on the role of modifiable lifestyle and environmental factors across the life course that affect female and male reproductive health\, fertility\, pregnancy and child health outcomes. She is particularly interested in the intersection between diet and environmental exposures during critical windows of development\, and epidemiologic methods to address these pressing questions. \nRegister for this Seminar:\n\n \n \n Fall 2026 Webinar Registration\n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n OrganizationJoin our mailing list?
