SUMMARY:Climate Change for Urban Health Researchers: Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:This Drexel University Urban Health Summer Institute course will provide an overview of \n\nthe public health impacts of a global climate change in urban areas\,\nurban policies for climate change mitigation and adaptation and the resulting benefits and harms to public health\, and\nfundamental concepts and research methods from exposure science and epidemiology to assess exposures and quantify the impacts of climate change on urban health. The course will have a specific focus on marginalized and/or vulnerable subpopulations and the role of climate hazards and climate policies in exacerbating or ameliorating health disparities.\n\nLearning objectives: \n\nExplain the scientific basis of observed and projected climate changes.\nDescribe the broad spectrum of public health impacts of climate hazards in urban areas (heat waves\, floods\, air pollution\, sea level rise\, population displacement\, etc.) and distinguish the ways in which climate exposures and health impacts are distributed differentially within and across urban populations.\nIdentify urban policies to mitigate and adapt to climate change and characterize the public health benefits and harms of these policies\, with a focus on marginalized and/or vulnerable populations.\nDefine key concepts and research methods to quantify climate exposures and health impacts in urban populations.\n\nPrerequisite knowledge: Understanding of basic epidemiological concepts and methods\, if possible. \nTechnical requirements: No software will be required. Students will use publicly available\, online interactive apps/websites. \nContinuing Education Credits*: 1.5 CEU or 15 CPH

SUMMARY:Reducing Lead Exposure in Your Community: Lead Awareness Curriculum Train-the-Trainer
DESCRIPTION:The webinars will focus on the Lead Awareness Curriculum\, an adaptable resource for educating and protecting communities from potential lead exposure.  These webinars are intended for community leaders with experience educating and training members of their communities. The webinars will teach attendees how to use and modify the Lead Awareness Curriculum to educate their communities about lead\, lead exposure\, and actions to reduce and prevent childhood lead exposure. Prior knowledge of lead or lead exposure is not needed to use the curriculum and attendees will receive a digital certificate of participation after completing the session.  Click here to learn more about June 12 webinar (offered in Spanish) or click here to learn more about June 25 webinar (offered in English). \nThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency invites you to join us for a 2.5-hour Train-the-Trainer webinar to learn about the Lead Awareness in Indian Country: Keeping our Children Healthy! Curriculum (commonly referred to as the Lead Awareness Curriculum). By the end of the webinar\, participants will know simple actions they can take to reduce lead exposure\, be familiar with all materials included within the Lead Awareness Curriculum\, understand how the curriculum is designed to be modified to fit an individual community’s needs\, and have a plan for how to facilitate sessions in their own communities. Attendees will receive a digital certificate of participation upon completion of the webinar. The curriculum was built with tribes but designed to be adaptable for all communities. It is designed to be taught by community leaders with experience educating and training members of their community. Prior knowledge of lead or lead exposure is not required to teach the curriculum. To learn more and to download the curriculum\, visit https://www.epa.gov/lead/tribal-lead-curriculum.
